Renesans
Biography and mission
Dedicated to music for more than half a century
History and identity
The Early Music Ensemble Renesans was founded in 1969 in Belgrade
(Republic of Serbia). It is today the oldest ensemble for early and traditional music, not only in the former Yugoslavia, but also in Europe.
Devoted to historical and authentic interpretation, the members of Renesans have developed an extremely rich repertoire that includes the musical heritage of the Middle Ages, Renaissance and Baroque. A significant part in the repertory policy of the Renesans is occupied by the research and presentation of the musical heritage of Serbia. All their programs are realized on copies of the instruments of the mentioned epochs.
A trail through the world and art
During the past more than half a century, Renesans has held more than 2,000 concerts throughout the former Yugoslavia, Europe, the Near and Middle East (Syria, Iran), and North Africa (Algeria).
On the initiative of Ljubomir Dimitrijević — one of the founders of Renesans, in 1994 the music education of the Republic of Serbia was introduced to study music of the Middle Ages, Renaissance and Baroque on historical instruments.
Renesans also participated in many theater plays and films, thus contributing to Serbian theater and cinematographic art.
